2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at the development studio following the dismissal of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing initial reveal last autumn.
On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer informed employees about this strategic move through an official communication, which stressed that playtesting had revealed the need for a clearer direction.
The president noted that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a revised focus, aiming to better meet player expectations.
The news echoes a comparable move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they recruited an industry veteran from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock development group.
Here is the full message from Ismailer's communication:
Team—
I understand you all just completed your meeting - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the positive developments. Last time I shared you all a note, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative developers we have had the chance to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to endure.”
Given your hard work and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The player input from last fall’s the game demo was revealing. It validated the promise of a action-packed game but made clear we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the requirement for a sharper identity.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the input to consideration and overhauled the title with a renewed vision - one that’s poised to deliver on its potential to our fans.
The trust in Project ETHOS increases every day. To advance the incredible development you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce the new hire as the latest Studio Head of the team. Following a period of discussions, he comes aboard us on the specified date.
His guidance and background in the PVP shooter field is vast, having devoted the past decade and a half developing and leading some of the most well-known titles in the industry, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in greeting him next week. We are all eager to keep observing the progress of Project ETHOS in the weeks to ahead.
The President
