Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.
Officers state they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then found numerous other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; officials are not yet informed of any harm in connection with the event," they commented.
City officials announced they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for details.
A senior official said the incident rendered him stunned and had to be resolved quickly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
